Universal Robots increases payload for cobots

Nov. 25, 2024
A change in control software allows UR20 and UR30 models to handle heavier items for top-lift applications, such as palletizing.

UR20 and UR30 Universal Robots’ (UR) heavy-payload cobots are appropriate for applications including machine tending, palletizing and high-torque jobs such as tightening screws or bolts.

What’s new? A software upgrade that raises the payload capacity from 44 pounds to 55 pounds for the UR20 and from 66 pounds to 77 pounds for the UR30, for applications that utilize the top-lift position, such as palletizing. Current users need only update UR’s PolyScope software to Version 5.19 or later to increase the payload capacity.

Benefits Versatility. Robotics control software plays a crucial role in optimizing power and torque while safeguarding the hardware, according to the company. Collaborations with customers and partners demonstrated opportunities for enhanced performance for loads hanging below the robot’s flange, and UR fine-tuned the control algorithms to unlock the additional capacity.
