Mold-Masters’ latest innovations include brand-new hot-runner systems that make possible the production of thin-walled packaging and PET containers for dairy products that feature a light-blocking core layer.
The company offers co-injection hot halves for thin-walled packaging, as well as PET preform hot halves, that allow manufacturers to inject a core layer of light-blocking barrier materials. Depending on part weight, the systems can dose black-core layers at rates of between 5 and 30 percent for thin-walled packaging, and as low as 3 percent for preforms.
In many cases, the company said, the new hot halves can be paired with cold halves that a customer might already be using for monolayer production.
By incorporating a core black layer, manufacturers and brand owners can tap into a number of benefits. Because it can reduce the thickness of the container, the layer can lower material costs. And, when used for the core of the product, such barriers can reduce the transmission of light by up to 99.9 percent, helping to extend product shelf life and preserve freshness and flavor, the company said.
