Sumitomo (SHI) Demag introduces robot line

Dec. 21, 2021
The SAM-C pick-and-place robots are customized for use with the company's injection molding machines.

SAM-C Sumitomo has launched its own brand of pick-and-place Cartesian robots for use with its injection molding machines (IMMs). The series initially will consist of four sizes, with payloads of 6.6 pounds, 11 pounds, 22 pounds and 44 pounds. The company designed the robots specifically for presses with clamping forces from 110 to 551 tons operating with cycle times of 10 seconds or more.

What’s new? The SAM-C line. The company plans to expand the capabilities of the product line in phases, adding more functions and movements. The line significantly increases the number of robots it offers with its machines. Key features include IO-Link communication capabilities, which will allow SAM-C-series robots to meet future Industry 4.0 requirements. The robots also incorporate the company’s myConnect web-based software, which gives users direct access to a wide range of support services, allowing them to troubleshoot, minimize downtime and reduce costs.

Benefits Single-supplier sourcing. The robots’ hardware and software are fully integrated with the IMM and their mechanics are customized to the company’s machines. They are low-maintenance, thanks to the company’s servo-motor, drive and guide technologies. Additionally, they offer an attractive price-to-performance ratio.
