The third-generation iScan3D can acquire 200,000 points per second for tasks including tooling inspection.

iScan3D This metrology-grade handheld laser scanner from API Metrology is designed for portable, shop-floor dimensional inspection and scanning. The iScan3D uses crossed blue laser lines and a high-resolution camera to capture dense point clouds and fine details in real time. It is useful for a wide range of tasks, including measuring mold and die cavities; inspecting tooling, fixtures and jigs; making CAD comparisons; rapid prototyping and reverse engineering.

What’s new? This re-engineered, third-generation version of the scanner.

Benefits Fast scanning. The iScan3D can acquire 200,000 points per second with 70-micron point spacing and an accuracy of 50 microns. Its head can be rotated 360 degrees to increase measuring flexibility. It has stylus mounting points on the front and top of the unit, and radio-frequency identification technology lets it automatically identify the probe length and tip size of a newly mounted stylus. It can successfully scan high-gloss or high-contrast areas.
