Kice filter opens up options for bins, conveyors, hoppers
Kice Industries recently introduced its Kice Compact Filter for direct mounting to bins, conveyor systems, surge hoppers and other equipment where access or mounting options are limited.
“This [filter] is typically used as a bin-top filter or a silo-venting filter. It would be appropriate in the plastics industry when you are transferring pellets to either bulk storage or from storage to the process,” said Josh White, Kice’s technical sales manager for the West Central U.S.
Whenever a processor moves pellets in a mechanical or pneumatic conveyor, dust is created, he said. Connecting the compact filter to a conveying system traps the dust particles in the filter’s cartridge.
In addition, when resin is dumped into a bin or machine hopper, air is displaced, which could release dust into the plant if a filter is not used.
The device uses pleated filter cartridges instead of a classic fabric filter bag. The pleated filter cartridges allow the unit to clean large volumes of air despite its compact size, White said.
The filters feature tool-free cartridge replacement to minimize maintenance and downtime.
Another unusual feature is a built-in fan.
“Typically, on a baghouse filter, you will want a fan on the clean air side, on the outlet side, just to help aid the airflow,” White said. “We have integrated the fan design into the filter.”
The Kice Compact Filter is available in four models with capacities ranging from 200 cubic feet of air per minute to 900 cubic feet per minute. The filters have either four or eight cartridges, with cartridge lengths ranging from 21 inches to 40.7 inches. Each standard cartridge contains 40 pleats regardless of its length.
