Mold maker Linear Mold & Engineering Inc., Livonia, Mich., has added new equipment that it says will make it even more responsive to orders. To accommodate the purchases, as well as its growing business, the 12-year-old company is undergoing a 17,000-square-foot expansion.
Linear Mold's purchases include a single-spindle gun drill from Precihole Machine Tools Pvt. Ltd., Maharastra, India. The tool can drill water lines, ejector pinholes and custom manifolds at speeds of 80 inches a minute through aluminum and 50-60 inches a minute through steel. In addition to the gun drill, the company also purchased metal additive printers from SLM Solutions GmbH, Lübeck, Germany, and EOS of North America Inc., Novi, Mich.
"It's good to be in mold making right now," Linear Mold President John Tenbusch says. "The mold world is very busy these days." According to a company official, the company makes between 450 and 500 molds a year.
