Yizumi-HPM is marketing its SpaceA S-Line 3D printer in North America, a general-purpose machine the company describes as compact, flexible and fast.

The company had a SpaceA S-Line printer on display during a recent event to unveil an expansion of its headquarters in Iberia, Ohio.

The SpaceA S-Line comes as a complete system that includes a dryer, material conveyor, single-screw extruder, six-axis industrial robot and control unit. The model comes in many different sizes.

The SpaceA S-Line incorporates additive manufacturing and machining to create a highly automated system. The machining unit comes with a standardized tool-changing system.
Yizumi said the printer can use most common plastic pellets instead of filament-based material, which keeps material costs down. Maximum output of the extruder is a fast 91.53 cubic inches per hour.

It was designed by Yizumi’s research and development center in Germany.

The system pre-treats plastic pellets in a dryer, then feeds the material from the dryer to the single-screw extruder. The pellets are plasticized in the extruder before being fed into the construction chamber. The compact extruder, which weighs only 14.3 pounds, features a concentric feed zone and integrated drying unit.

Yizumi said plasticizing through shear heating in the screw extruder, instead of just heat induction, enables higher productivity and makes the process more scalable.

The SpaceA S-Line has a separate print and build platform module so they can be matched to different products.

The controller’s hardware and software are designed to network with other production equipment. Several interfaces, including Euromap 67 and EtherCat, come standard.
Maximum print speed is 9.8 inches per second.

Maximum build area of the S-Line series is about 6.6 feet by 3.2 inches by 6.6 feet.

“This product is suitable for fast new-product development and prototyping as well as low-quantity production in all kinds of industries,” said Joe Liang, acting GM at Yizumi.

Liang said although no 3D printers have been sold in North America, some are in use in Europe. The SpaceA S-Line is now stocked at the company’s Ohio plant along with spare parts.

The U.S. service team provides on-site installation and services. Remote programming and training are also available from Yizumi’s research and development center in Germany.

A SpaceA S-Line was on display at NPE2024, and Liang said visitors described the price as very attractive compared with competitors’ similar models.

The 3D printer was part of Yizumi’s opening ceremony to celebrate an $11 million expansion of its head office and plant facility in Ohio. The company said it needed the expansion to support growing sales and services, which increased 35 percent over the past year.
