ID Additives system fights rust in molds

June 17, 2019

ID Additives has introduced a system for removing rust from surfaces such as internal cooling passages in molds and dies.

The new iD Eco-Pro 360 Cart is a pump and filter combination unit that, when used with a cleaning agent, removes rust and helps prevent new rust from forming within cooling passages, heat exchangers and water lines. The built-in filter removes contaminants from used liquid cleaning agents so they can be reused.

The Eco-Pro 360 Cart is designed for use with the company’s recently introduced Eco-Pro 360, a preventive product that quickly removes rust from injection molds, blown film dies and other parts. However, the cart can also be used with other liquid cleaning agents.

“This new product is ideal for cleaning rust out of hard-to-reach internal channels, such as water lines in an injection mold,” iD Additives President Nick Sotos said. “It is perfect for the maintenance departments of molding facilities.”

The Eco-Pro 360 Cart includes no rubber seals or components that could be broken down by cleaning chemicals. It runs off compressed air, meaning no electrical connections are needed. When the cart is used with Eco-Pro 360 cleaner, no water is needed. HDPE drums, ranging in size from 5 gallons to 55 gallons, are used to supply the Eco-Pro 360 cleaning solution, or other cleaning solutions, to the pump and filter system.

The ability to operate with a large variety of drum sizes offers customers maximum flexibility.

“We didn’t want to limit ourselves because, quite frankly, some molds are small, and you might only need 5 gallons to flush out your coolant passages,” said Bryan Whitaker, account manager and technical representative for Eco-Pro 360. “Whereas, we understand there are some large molds. I flushed a mold last week that makes pallets. You can imagine how large that mold is. It is 5-foot-by-6-foot. That thing is huge.”

The filter system, which the company also considers a major advantage, removes rust particles from the Eco-Pro 360 liquid, which allows the fluid to be reused many times. After the liquid is filtered, it is returned to the original container.

Eco-Pro 360 cleaning solution is a water-based, environmentally friendly, EPA-tested product, the company said. It is nonhazardous and nonflammable. Its benefits include removing rust without etching, providing a protective coating for long-term rust protection and working on all ferrous and nonferrous metal surfaces.

“The Eco-Pro will leave behind a nanocoating on whatever surface it is applied to,” Whitaker said.

The nanocoating helps deter the formation of new rust.
