Confocal sensors perform high-speed, inline inspection

Jan. 29, 2020
Designed for detecting problems with hard-to-scan materials, FocalSpec's new LCI1220 and LCI1620 sensors can be used off-the-shelf or in custom systems.

LCI1220 and LCI1620 sensors FocalSpec’s new confocal optical sensors can be used for high-speed, inline inspection of part dimensions and characteristics such as the shape, surface flatness and roughness of molded and extruded parts. They are available as off-the-shelf products in a benchtop scanner useful for R&D applications; they also can be integrated in custom inspection systems.

What’s new? The sensors, which hit the market late last year.

Benefits Speed. Compared to FocalSpec’s previous generation of sensors, the LCI1220 and LCI1620 are about six times faster, making them ideal for inline inspection. They are effective at detecting typically hard-to-scan materials, including products with mirror-like or glossy surfaces, as well as clear products.
