Adhesive bonds low-surface-energy materials

Aug. 29, 2024
IPS Adhesives' product requires no primer or surface preparation, and can bond plastics to metals as well as other plastics.

SG400LSE To overcome the challenges of trying to bond low-surface-energy materials such as PP and PE, IPS Adhesives (IPSA) has introduced this two-part translucent, methyl methacrylate adhesive that not only bonds such plastics together, but also can cross-bond plastics to metals such as steel and aluminum. The company said it is being used in the manufacture of automotive interior fixtures and truck panels, medical devices and outdoor furniture.

What’s new? The SG400LSE adhesive, which IPSA markets under its SciGrip brand, available through the company’s global distribution network.

Benefits Superior adhesion. Because the SG400LSE adhesive requires no primer or surface preparation such as flaming or plasma treatment, labor costs for those production steps are eliminated. It has low sag, as well as short working and fixture times. It creates strong bonds across a broad range of substrates, offers environmental resistance capabilities, and provides manufacturers flexibility to create stronger, lighter and more durable products.
