Olympus Corp. announced it has split its Scientific Solutions business off as a wholly owned subsidiary that will be known as Evident Corp. The company said this is part of its long-term strategy to cement Olympus’ in the medical technology industry.
Evident will take on Olympus’ former life science and industrial endeavors – which includes products such as industrial microscopes, sensors and scanners – a move Olympus said will allow the new company to respond quickly and more flexibly to customer needs.
Yoshitake Saito, the president and representative director of Evident, said “Evident, while continuing to provide best-in-class products, will expand its digital and cloud-based solutions to enhance the customer experience and to improve the overall workflow in the research and inspection fields. We will shift from a business model centered on the sale of products, to one focused on solving customer issues and challenges. With this greater management autonomy, we will promote agile product development and open innovation, which we believe will increase the speed of product development.”
Evident is headquartered in Japan and will operate independently under the Olympus umbrella.
