Magnetic separation, metal detection and materials-handling equipment maker Eriez Manufacturing Co. is celebrating its 80th anniversary.

Founder O.F. Merwin got the ball rolling when he installed a permanent magnet in a grain mill. While the company is still headquartered in Erie, Pa., today it operates on six continents through 12 wholly owned international subsidiaries, with a total workforce of more than 900.

A family-run company since its founding, O.F. Merwin’s grandson Richard Merwin now serves as chairman. It was the leadership vision of Richard’s late father, Bob Merwin, to introduce Eriez to the international market in the 1950s.

Richard Merwin said, “Our Board of Directors, past and present, has embraced and supported deliberate and bold ongoing initiatives for global strategic growth. Their consistent, sound and ethical guidance is a major factor in Eriez’ continuing success.”
