Labtech unveils new lab-sized coextrusion blown film lines

June 2, 2020
Labtech's newest additions to its Ultra Micro line bring fully functional coextrusion blown film lines to the lab.

Ultra Micro coextrusion blown film line What became LabTech Engineering’s Ultra Micro series of machines began as a one-off, single-layer, miniature film blowing line built in secret by LabTech engineers in their spare time and presented as a gift to company founder Peter Jurgensen at a New Year’s party. This led to the company offering professional-quality miniature blown film lines for sale. Their extruders have a conical screw and a barrel with a starting diameter of 18mm and an ending diameter of 8mm, and a 30:1 L:D ratio. The die and air ring are made using the same designs employed in larger LabTech lines. The control unit comes with a seven-inch color touch screen.

What’s new? Two coextrusion lines, one with five extruders for making five-layer films and one with three extruders for three-layer films. Both debuted at K 2019.

Benefits Small size. An entire blown film line, including extruders, film tower and winder station, fits on a cart with rollers. It processes standard resin pellets. While the company originally intended for Ultra Micro lines to be used by schools, it is seeing the largest demand from companies that use them in their labs.
