Single-screw extruders US Extruders' new single-screw extruders are suitable for all plastic extrusion processes and can be customized for specific needs. They come with a choice of ProControl controls provided by ProSystems Integration, a Westerly, R.I., company that will be sharing US Extruders' booth. Of the two extruders at the booth, a 2.5-inch extruder will feature the ProControl Deluxe control, a comprehensive HMI system that controls the entire process, including most downstream and support equipment. The second, a 3.5-inch extruder, will be equipped with ProControl DCR, a cost-effective HMI alternative to discrete controls that includes basic extruder control along with recipe and basic alarm functions.

What's new? The extruders, which the company introduced in September. Both extruders on display will have an L:D ratio of 24:1.

Benefits Ease of use, wear-resistance and consistent heating. The extruders boast a number of user-friendly features. For example, the C-clamps are easy to open, featuring a thumb-release safety lock. The lever-action swing bolt does not need a wrench adjustment once the position is set. Also, a shroud, which keeps the outer layer of the extruder relatively cool, is designed with special wireways that provide easy access but keep wires out of the way. A one-piece feed throat is built into the extruder barrels with an air- and water-cooled jacketed feed area. The feed throat eliminates alignment issues that can be found in a conventional cast-iron feed section with bolt-on barrels. In addition, the extruders' bi-metallic feed area provides improved wear resistance.
