Survey: Negative impacts expected from Trump tariffs

April 8, 2025
Endeavor Business Intelligence asked 437 businesses how they are responding.

Two-thirds of more than 400 companies in a recent survey expect President Trump’s tariff policies to have a very negative (41 percent) or somewhat negative (25 percent) effect on their businesses.

Thirteen percent expect a very positive effect, and 12 percent expect a somewhat positive effect.

The survey of 437 businesses was conducted April 3-6 by Endeavor Business Intelligence, a division of Endeavor Business Media, which also owns Plastics Machinery & Manufacturing. The Trump administration announced the wide-ranging tariffs on April 2.

Thirty-two percent of respondents said they've already experienced disruption in their business, and an additional 16 percent of respondents were expecting to see issues in the immediate aftermath of the tariff announcement. Most respondents are experiencing moderate impacts on their spending.

More than half said they expect to raise prices to pass along a majority of the new costs to customers.
