Plaskolite founder Donald Dunn dies at age 98

The company he created is now North America's largest producer of thermoplastic sheet.

Donald G. Dunn, who founded thermoplastic sheet producer Plaskolite LLC in 1950, died on Monday, Aug. 16, at his home in Columbus, Ohio. He was 98.

The company started out producing drinking straws but has become North America’s largest producer of thermoplastic sheet, with 11 facilities around the world and 1,300 employees.

Dunn was born in Pittsburgh on June 25, 1923, and earned a Purple Heart and Silver Star for his actions as a sergeant serving with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy during WWII. He and his wife, Mary, were wed in 1948 and raised five children in Columbus. Dunn’s family honored his wartime service in 2013 by founding the Donald G. and Mary A. Dunn Chair of Modern Military History at The Ohio State University. Mary died in 1996.
