ABB has introduced a digital sensor that is designed to improve the productivity of low-voltage motors by connecting them to cloud-based services.

Smart sensor ABB has introduced a digital sensor that is designed to improve the productivity of low-voltage motors by connecting them to cloud-based services for integration into the Internet of Things. The sensor, which can be used on motors for extruders, melt pumps, blown film blowers and other plastics applications, can be retrofitted on any low-voltage induction motor, and will be factory installed on select ABB low-voltage motors.

What's new? The product, which will be for sale in North American by the end of the year. ABB introduced the sensor at the German industrial technology trade show Hannover Messe in April.

Benefits Improved efficiency, reduced downtime and cost savings. The sensor can reduce motor downtime by up to 70 percent, extend motor lifespan by up to 30 percent and cut energy consumption by as much as 10 percent.
