ITRO Portable Surface Treater Nakata's system improves adhesion on PP, PE, metals, glass and silicones for 7-10 days, which is long enough for a bonding or coating process, such as water-based paint or ink, to be applied. The method involves spraying a gas containing a silicon compound on the surface while burning it. The combustion leaves a silicon oxide coating layer on the surface.
What's new? The portable version of the system, which was introduced at the Plastics-in-Motion conference in May. A larger inline system, currently available in Japan though Nakata USA's Japanese parent company, will be available in the U.S. later this year.
Benefits The portable system fits in a single aluminum carrying case and does not require an external electrical source. It costs about $6,000 and does not require training to operate. A canister of gas provides about 100 minutes of normal use.
