    Kiefel boosts forming area on Speedformer KMD

    Speedformer KMD 90  This newest automatic packaging pressure former from Kiefel GmbH has the largest forming area, so far, of its Speedformer line, which already includes the KMD 64, KMD 78 and KMD 85.

    What's new?  KMD 90's maximum forming area of 865mm by 915mm (34.05 inches by 36.2 inches). For reference, KMD 85 is 825mm by 675mm.

    Benefits  A high-output rate and cost efficiency for mass production, with less energy consumption using a variety of rigid packaging materials including polystyrene, oriented PS, EPS, polypropylene, polyethylene, PVC and PET. Configurations allow for steel rule cutting, punching and stacking.

    StackTeck is among many manufacturers and OEMs working to lightweight parts, both to reduce costs, as well as to address sustainability concerns. It used its specialized molds and proprietary Thin Recess Injection Molding (TRIM). technology to produce these 5-gallon buckets that have wall sections that are only 0.59 inch thick. Three years ago, StackTeck told Plastics Machinery & Manufacturing the buckets weighed 817 grams -- compared to 930-gram-buckets made through more-traditional means..
