ZSK FilCo Coperion’s filtration compounder for post-consumer recyclate (PCR) and highly contaminated waste can melt, filter, compound and pelletize in a single production step. Waste plastic is fed gravimetrically into a Coperion ZSK twin-screw extruder to be melted, homogenized and devolatilized. The melt is then fed through an integrated filter to remove contaminants before it moves back into the same ZSK extruder to be compounded with reinforcing materials or fillers.
What’s new? The ZSK FilCo.
Benefits A more-streamlined process, compared with using a traditional two-extruder configuration. Using just a single extruder takes less floor space. Total energy consumption and emissions are reduced by more than 50 percent, and the company says it achieves a higher product quality and faster production. Also, the material is subject to less thermal stress since it is melted only one time.
