Machinery supplier Starlinger & Co. GmbH, Vienna, has received two Letters of No Objection (LNO) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its machinery and method for processing post-consumer HDPE. Starlinger received the letters in August, which apply to its bottle-to-bottle and cap-to-cap processes, confirming that recycled HDPE pellets made via the company’s equipment can be used at levels of up to 100 percent in packaging that comes in contact with food.
“The two LNOs are another important achievement for Starlinger in the field of food grade recycling,” said Paul Niedl, commercial head of Starlinger recycling technology. “Like it is the case with PET, 100 percent recycled HDPE can now be used in applications with direct food contact. There is keen market interest for this.”
