Specialty materials maker Eastman received the 2021 Innovation in Bioplastics Award from the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) Bioplastics Division.

The company’s Aventa Renew product is a material that combines sustainably sourced wood pulp and certified recycled content that can match the performance of traditional plastics, yet it can be disposed of responsibly through composting.

Aventa Renew is U.S. Food and Drug Administration compliant for single-use food contact, offering a sustainable alternative for conventional foodservice packaging materials.

“We are honored to receive this Bioplastic Innovation Award from the Plastics Industry Association,” said David Nelson, director, corporate innovation at Eastman. “We look forward to helping food service brands achieve their sustainability goals by developing packaging that doesn’t compromise customers’ experience and enables a responsible end-of-use through composting.”

Eastman, Kingsport, Tenn., employs about 14,500 people globally.
