ABB Robotics launches Energy Efficiency Service

Oct. 8, 2024
The company says the tools and analysis can cut consumption by up to 30 percent.

Users of robots from ABB Robotics, Auburn Hills, Mich., can opt for a new package that includes consultation, analysis and tools from the company to increase the energy efficiency of their robots.

The service offers up to 30 percent energy savings, according to the company.

Gauging the energy efficiency of industrial robots is complex, involving measuring multiple electrical components and assessing factors such as setup, component sizing, overloading and application changes.

ABB Robotics said its Energy Efficiency Service will combine ABB’s 50 years of industrial robotics experience with a suite of energy-measurement tools.

The Standby Energy Optimization tool is an external measurement tool to assess the real energy consumption of a robot and controller. It generates a report with advice on ways to save energy and steps for fine-tuning performance.

The Program Optimization tool analyzes a robot’s operating program and suggests improvements to save energy, such as adjusting the robot’s programmed speed or motion paths.

The Energy Monitoring and Benchmarking tool enables continuous monitoring of robot energy consumption, with recommendations for improving performance and comparisons with robots in similar applications.

The service can also provide an analysis on the impact of upgrading to newer technologies offering energy-saving features.
