CUMSA tool simplifies mold insert changes
Insert Changer (IC) This modular CUMSA system for molds that require dual-material configurations or interchangeable inserts includes two parts: a stationary section that remains anchored and secured to the mold, and a second section that moves with the insert. It supports a wide range of applications, including various shapes, engravings and insert types, and can withstand working temperatures of up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. To ensure a smooth extraction of the insert and avoid sticking, it requires a 5-degree angle. A user can activate the air supply to the stationary part connected to the air channel, and the mobile section will release from the parting line. Then, the user can turn off the air, swap the insert and push it back into place, without any extra tools.
What’s new? The IC, which hit the market Nov. 1 and is available in diameters of 12mm and 20mm. To avoid plastic leakage, the insert must exceed the dimensions of the IC. The insert’s height is adjustable to guarantee uniform performance with each cycle.
Benefits Quick and easy replacement of inserts directly from the parting line, all within a single mold. The IC helps maximize efficiency and minimize downtime. Installation and maintenance are simplified thanks to the easy access through the mold’s parting line.
