Nissei Plastics Industrial Co. Ltd. and Negri Bossi SpA rolled out several new presses in their first K Show since Nissei acquired the Italian company in 2020.
Two machines with different applications are part of the all-electric Nova 5eT series, the first machine series designed jointly by Japan-based Nissei and Negri Bossi.
The series features a new controller called the TACT5, which Nissei said allows it to function as a hub to connect and control auxiliary equipment. It also facilitates connection to manufacturing execution systems.
The clamping unit is a flat type, which Nissei describes as a high-cycle-capable toggle mechanism that transmits linear and uniform pressure to the mold.
The company also said the new series offers one of the industry’s widest platens and longest daylight while keeping a small footprint.

With 110 tons of clamping force, the Nova 5e110T H230 is designed to process plant-based composite resins such as polylactic acid (PLA). At K 2022, the press molded cutlery sets from PLA composite material that was derived from sugar cane and corn plus wood flour made from scrap wood. Nissei said the material is 100 percent plant-based; when composted, it breaks down into water and carbon dioxide. The press is targeted to the automotive, containers and medical markets.
Cycle time for the cutlery set demonstration with a two-cavity mold was 120 seconds. Shot weight was 2.7 ounces.
A Nissei spokesman said the general-purpose machine provides a stable molding process for eco-friendly resin. It is available with a screw diameter of 28mm, 32mm or 36mm. Injection speed is 40mm per second. Clamping force is 121 tons, and clamping stroke is 350mm. It is OPC-UA capable.
Another new general-purpose injection molding machine, the Nova 5e180T H590 with a special-designed, single-cavity mold, injection blow molded bottles from PLA in a cycle time of 27 seconds. Shot size was 45 grams.
“This does not require a special blow molding machine, which is commonly used in molding bottles,” a Nissei spokesman said.
The bottles were formed in one process, which included a step for adding an IML.
The Nova 5e180T H590 is available with a screw diameter of 40mm, 45mm or 50mm. Injection speed is 270mm per second. Clamping force is 180 tons and clamping stroke is 450mm.
The new press is aimed at the container and medical markets.
A third new press, the hybrid TWX220RIII25, was developed to meet demand for larger-insert molding applications.
Nissei said the TWX series has a direct-pressure clamping unit. The new compound-type clamping mechanism lowers the mold mounting height to 39 inches, which also lowers overall machine height. The lower height improves the work environment for operators and reduces factory and auxiliary equipment costs, Nissei said.
Available screw diameters are 40mm, 45mm or 50mm. Injection speed is 110mm per second. Clamping force is 242 tons, and clamping stroke is 320mm to 470mm. Tie-bar clearance on the TWX220RIII25V is 1,699mm.
Nissei reported sales of $331 million for the year ending March 2022, up 17.1 percent from the previous year.
