ColorStream When a customer asked if there was a way Plastrac could free its employees from the task of climbing ladders or stairs to clean or change additive hoppers, Plastrac responded with this new system, which brings blending to the production floor. Plastrac says ColorStream works with all injection molding, extrusion and blow molding machines and is ideal for plants with multiple machines running in excess of 2,000 pounds per hour of any virgin resin, including PET. The ColorStream cart can support one to four additive feeders in the same footprint. Instead of requiring high-pressure compressed air from a factory’s central system, its custom-made venturi uses low-pressure air from an electric regenerative blower on the same cart. The color or other additives are then transported to a sturdy mixer mounted to the primary machine’s feed throat and blended with the resin there.
What’s new? The recently awarded patent from the U.S. Patent Office for the ColorStream system.
Benefits Capital equipment savings. ColorStream lowers power costs, as well as the need for additional equipment. Because it is mounted on a cart, ColorStream can be moved from machine to machine, and it can also be repositioned out of the way for maintenance on the primary machine. ColorStream is designed to be nearly 100 percent maintenance free, with no cleaning necessary because the transport air scrubs all surfaces, and there is nothing to clog. Customers can choose between a 0.33-horsepower and a 0.25-horsepower blower.
