Engel IMMs now 'talk' with more auxiliaries

The OEM and Werner Koch Maschinentechnik developed an OPC-UA interface that allows Koch mixing and dosing units to be integrated into Engel CC300 controllers.

Injection molding machines Engel manufactures a wide range of injection molding machines (IMMs), including hydraulic, electric, horizontal and vertical presses. Applications for its presses range from precision micro parts to large automotive components.

What’s new? A communications upgrade. Engel and auxiliary equipment manufacturer Werner Koch Maschinentechnik collaborated to develop an OPC-UA interface that allows Koch mixing and dosing units to be integrated into Engel CC300 controllers and operated through the IMM’s control panel. This latest development adds to the temperature control units, hot runners and LSR dosing systems that Engel IMMs had been communicating with via OPC-UA.

Benefits Efficiency and convenience. The process for mixing and dosing thermoplastic resins, additives and masterbatches is centrally controlled via the machine display, eliminating the need for a separate control unit. Alerts from the dosing and mixing unit are also provided via the CC300 machine panel. Centrally storing process data from all the equipment makes production batches easier to trace. OPC-UA provides flexibility and a high degree of data security, Engel said, and is becoming the standard for the injection molding industry.
