Westminster Tool has upgraded its mold qualification technology center with the addition of a new injection molding machine (IMM) from Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery North America Inc.
The Plainfield, Conn., mold maker added a 354-ton SE-EV-A-HD press to accommodate upcoming medical manufacturing projects that call for larger parts and higher cavitation. The technology center currently houses a 110-ton press and a 150-ton press.
“Partnering with Sumitomo (SHI) Demag was a natural fit considering the timing, and it’s a perfect alignment of each company’s needs,” said Westminster Tool President Ray Coombs. Additionally, Coombs said many Westminster customers are also Sumitomo (SHI) Demag customers, and this eases the transition from the mold build to qualification for them.
Bob Brady, Sumitomo’s North America business development manager, said, “With Westminster Tool’s reputation in the plastics industry and its reputation in the community here in Connecticut, our machines are getting the exact kind of exposure we need.” Sumitomo is headquartered in Suwanee, Ga. IMMs.
