Packaging solutions manufacturer Multivac announced its recently opened production factory in Tsukuba, Japan, is fully up and running.

The company spent about $20 million to build the 54,896 square feet of production space, which consolidates the capabilities of its two previous facilities, which had die production in Toda, and assembly in Abiko.

The new building has about five times the capacity of the previous arrangement, and includes an assembly hall, spare-parts warehouse and showroom, as well as a significantly expanded test center.

“In order to be able to better serve the important Japanese market, as well as fully exploit the growth potential in the area of system integration, it was necessary to have a completely new concept,” said Guido Spix, who, with Christian Traumann, serves as joint group president for the company. “Despite continuous improvement in manufacturing processes, we had reached the limits of our capacity.”

Multivac’s global headquarters is in Wolfertschwenden, Germany.
