KraussMaffei Berstorff updates twin-screw extruder for WPC

March 4, 2015

ZE twin screw for WPC This co-rotating twin-screw extruder from KraussMaffei Berstorff (NPE Booth W903) has optimized components to reduce melt temperature and increase processing rates of wood-plastic composites (WPC).

What's new? A combination of kneading and multi-process elements in the plasticizing zone reduces melt temperature approximately 10 percent while melting efficiency remains identical to that of standard screws. A ZSFE side feeder with special Ultra Feed vacuum technology improves output rate in WPC processing by a factor of 2.5 compared to conventional screws.

Benefits Improved melt quality, high process reliability, and no need for a hold-down system. This is due to optimized screw elements in the mixing section, while barrel sections with a length-to-diameter ratio of 6 promote degassing.
