Industrial packaging maker Scientex Berhad, Shah Alam, Malaysia, is investing significantly in film production over a three-year period to expand PE and BOPP film production and enter the market for cast PP film (CPP).
The investment includes a CPP film line from Reifenhäuser, and new lines for BOPP film from Japan Steel Works. Windmöller & Hölscher will provide equipment for PE film production, including Southeast Asia's first nine-layer blown film line, a Varex II. W&H also is providing a Miraflex CM 10 flexographic printing press that will be the first deployed in Southeast Asia.
Reifenhäuser's equipment will include its Reicofeed 2.1 feed block.
"We believe that this significant investment in increasing our current consumer packaging capacity and extending our range of films would grant us the strategic opportunity to garner a larger slice of the consumer packaging market in the Asia Pacific region," said Lim Peng Jin, managing director of Scientex Berhad.
He said the company's main objective is cost-efficient production for wide range of consumer films that will benefit its customers in the food and beverage manufacturing sector. The expansion also will help fill the growing need for consumer packaging, he added.
