Markforged, which produces a range of composite and metal 3D printers and software products for additive manufacturing, has announced plans to acquire Digital Metal, a leading creator of powder-binder jetting technology.
Markforged said it entered into a definitive agreement with Höganäs AB to acquire Digital Metal for about $32 million in cash and approximately 4.1 million shares of Markforged common stock. The deal, which is expected to close during the third quarter of 2022, would also entail approximately $1.5 million in cash to settle certain intercompany balances.
Markforged, which is based in Watertown, Mass., said the acquisition gives it a highly scalable additive manufacturing technology that will expand its capabilities into high-throughput production of metal additive parts at the point of customers’ needs.
