Engel receives sustainability gold ranking

Nov. 8, 2022
The assessment by EcoVadis considers global supply chains and the company's environmental, social and ethical performance.

Engel announced it has improved its sustainability ranking from silver to gold on the EcoVadis platform. It is the only maker of injection molding machines worldwide to achieve that status, the company said.

EcoVadis rankings include data from more than 90,000 companies and focus on global supply chains and the companies’ environmental, social and ethical performance.

“When it comes to the environment, Engel is in the leading group, to which only one percent of all industrial companies assessed belong,” said Martin Weger, VP global quality and environment.

Among other criteria, Engel has certified all of its locations worldwide in line with ISO 14001 and ISO 9001, and uses a great deal of green electricity. “The Austrian plants use 100 percent green electricity. We generate some of this ourselves with our own photovoltaic systems,” Weger said. “We are currently upgrading further plants and subsidiaries with photovoltaic systems, and we are looking into other alternative energy sources, such as geothermal energy in China.”

“Many customers take the EcoVadis status into account when making a purchasing decision,” CEO Stefan Engleder said. “We will continue to work consistently to improve the sustainability of our processes.”
