Wilmington tricks out Lumina presses with more standard features

Dec. 15, 2021
The low-pressure injection molding machines now come with the ability to perform structural-foam gas-assist molding, gas-counter-pressure molding and stack molding for both external-nozzle and hot-runner processes.

Lumina Wilmington’s Lumina low-pressure injection molding machines are available with clamping forces ranging from 350 to 2,500 tons and with shot capacities from 25 to 300 pounds. Each machine can be outfitted with up to six molds at one time. The ability to inject gas into the extruder barrel is a standard feature on all models.

What’s new? More processes as standard features. Lumina machines now come standard with the ability to perform structural-foam gas-assist molding, gas-counter-pressure molding and stack molding for both external-nozzle and hot-runner processes. Also new are injection control options that include velocity control for the short-shot method for molding structural foam; pressure control; and velocity-to-pressure control. The company’s Versafil sequenced injection control for multiple molds or multiple nozzles is standard on all models.

Benefits Versatility. The machines can mold traditional utilitarian structural foam parts that are characterized by stiffness and low cost. They also can produce thinner-wall foam parts with superior surface quality via gas-in-mold processes.
