The equipment will be used to convert carpet scrap into virgin-quality PP pellets.

KraussMaffei announced it has recently secured an order from PureCycle Technologies, Orlando, Fla., for several extruders to convert carpet scraps into virgin-quality PP pellets.

PureCycle Technologies, Orlando, Fla., uses extruders from KraussMaffei to convert carpet scraps into virgin-quality PP pellets.

PureCycle uses proprietary technology licensed from The Procter & Gamble Co. to create pellets that can be used for automotive, consumer and industrial products.

PureCycle is using two twin-screw extruders from KrausMaffei to melt carpet scraps for its process, and each of them can supply about 9 tons of processed feedstock per hour. The melt goes through PureCycle’s first processing stage, then through a degassing extruder to remove volatile matter.  PureCycle expects its flagship plant in Ironton, Ohio, to begin operating at scale next year.

Based in Munich, KraussMaffei manufactures and services injection molding, extrusion and reaction process machinery.
