W8 Wittmann Battenfeld has upgraded five robots in its W8 series, which is designed for demolding parts from injection molding machines with clamping forces from 165 to 441 tons. The upgraded robot models are the W821, W822, W823, W828 and W831.
What's new? Revamped rotational servo axes. The company has redesigned the robots' optional B- and C-axes. The B-axis allows for rotation of the end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) within the mold area between the fixed and flexible adapter plates. The C-axis allows for removal of the molded parts from both the moving and fixed mold halves. The photos show a W821 equipped with a servo C-axis (see photo) and B- and C-servo axes.
Benefits Increased functionality. By using different combinations of the axes, such as a servo B-axis combined with a pneumatic C-axis, or servo B- and C-axes, the robots can handle parts oriented in any direction. Also, cycle times are unaffected by the additional axes.
