Portable alligator shears Companies that recycle oversize scrap or large defective plastic parts, like wash tubs or garbage cans, may find shredders that can handle objects that large to be a cost-prohibitive investment. Alligator shears can be a useful intermediate size-reduction step, but the stationary equipment may not be as useful if it is needed in multiple locations.
What’s new? Portable size reduction. BCA Industries introduced its portable gas-powered alligator shears at the beginning of this year.
Benefits Cost-effectiveness. Rather than bearing the costs of transporting long or bulky items to another location for shredding, these alligator shears can cut oversized items to a size that can be managed onsite by lower-power, lower-cost small or mid-sized shredders. The unit is easily moved between locations with a tow dolly, a forklift with a ball at the end of it or an ATV. A hydraulic drive at the rear of the unit helps users lift large pieces onto the cutting platform.
