Engel in Mexico, Husky's new acquisition, expansion at PRI: Machinery Minutes
Transcript
Hello, welcome to PMM Insight, a Plastics Machinery & Manufacturing podcast. I am your host, Ron Shinn, editor of PMM.
This is an episode of Machinery Minutes, where at the beginning of each week I share with you three things you need to know in about three minutes. You can read the complete stories on plasticsmachinerymanufacturing.com.
Let’s get started.
Story No. 1: Engel has opened its new $31 million production facility in Mexico, aimed at providing faster delivery times and increased availability of injection molding machines in the Americas.
Vanessa Malena, president of Engel Americas, said “Mexico plays a crucial role in our global production strategy and is a key market for injection molding technology. With this facility, we are enhancing our local manufacturing footprint.”
During an interview last December at Engel Americas headquarters in York, Pennsylvania, Malena said potential tariffs would not make the plant less important. She said, “The plant in Mexico is the right decision for Engel because whether there is a tariff here or in Austria or in China or in Mexico, the machines are still closer.”
Engel will manufacture the e-mac all-electric small molding machine and Wintec t-win hydraulic, two-platen large machine series, as well as custom robots and automation solutions, in Querétaro. The company plans to ramp up production quickly, and the facility offers space for future expansion.

No. 2: Husky Technologies has acquired secondary injection unit and rotary platen technologies from MGS Healthcare Manufacturing, a provider of health-care manufacturing solutions.
Husky said the acquisition complements its multi-material and multicolor solutions across a variety of market segments, including the medical, packaging and consumer electronics industries, enabling the integration of precision secondary injection units and rotary platens with its Altanium mold controller technology.
You can read the full story headlined, “Husky acquires technologies from MGS.”
No. 3: Plastic Recycling Inc. has invested $10 million in adding two state-of-the-art extruder systems and upgrading lab equipment at its Indianapolis headquarters plant. The new equipment boosts the company's capacity to compound up to 200 million pounds of recycled resin a year.
The 35-year-old company wants to increase its business for recycled resin compounds used in the automotive and electronics industries. It recently launched 12 new grades of automotive compounds based on 100 percent recycled resin.
PRI is following the European model, which produces technical compounds with high levels of recycled content that are consistent from truckload to truckload.
Read all the details in the story headlined, “Plastics Recycling Inc. adds two extruder systems.” This story also appears in the Spring issue of Plastics Recycling magazine, available in the Digital Edition section of our website.
Those are my Top 3 items for this week. We have a new list every Monday.
