Riverdale Global starts up new, more-efficient water-treatment facility
Riverdale Global, which makes liquid color technologies for the plastics industry, announced Nov. 7 it has implemented a new water-treatment facility at its plant in High Point, N.C. Designed to reduce waste and increase efficiency in the company’s liquid color vessel cleaning process, the facility will save the company, based in Aston, Pa., an estimated average of 250,000 gallons of water a year.
At the new facility, the vessels run through an 8-minute pressure wash cycle in an enclosed washing station. They are then spot-cleaned and inspected before being sent for reuse. The water drained from the vessels during this process travels through a series of three tanks to be filtered, then is reused for cleaning other vessels.
The process almost completely eliminates the need for cleaning solvents and reduces the use and disposal of colorant-stained cleaning rags.
"Our vision is to be sustainable from start to finish,” Riverdale CEO Paul Maguire said. “This closed-loop water treatment facility plays a key role in our mission to continuously reduce the environmental impact of our products.”
