Pearl Technologies Inc., a Savannah, N.Y., company that makes parts for converting and extrusion equipment, recently partnered with the Rochester Institute of Technology to play host to an event to encourage girls to pursue science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers.
Officials from the company spoke at Summer Math Applications in Science with Hands-on Experience for Girls, or SMASH, in July. They explained how math and science applied to the plastics industry and manufacturing by showing the girls various punch profiles and slitting angles. They also discussed the importance of math when designing equipment for converting or extruding applications.
