3D Systems Inc., Rock Hill, S.C., announced that to take advantage of expanding opportunities in medical and high-reliability industrial applications, it has acquired Allevi Inc. and Additive Works GmbH.
Philadelphia-based Allevi develops bioprinting solutions, which aligns with 3D Systems’ efforts in regenerative medicine. Additive Works, based in Bremen, Germany, has developed software that uses algorithms to simulate additive manufacturing and boost automation and optimization of the processes.
The company also has developed a user-friendly interface for the software that helps users improve print setup and adapts the process to compensate for distortion and handle thermal management.
Additive Works’ fits with 3D Systems’ efforts to meet the growing need for software that support generalists in manufacturing who are adopting additive manufacturing.
3D Systems manufactures metal and polymer 3-D printers and develops materials, software and services for the industry.
